The Occupied Nation
The Niri
A resilient people defined by untamed pride and a deep-rooted belief that it is better to die for freedom than to live in shackles.
The Niri are a resilient people inhabiting a region within the realm of Kirina who have spent decades under the brutal occupation and exploitation of the wealthy state of Vodun. Their identity is defined by an untamed pride and a deep-rooted belief that it is better to die for freedom than to live in shackles.
Political Structure
The nation is organized as a confederacy where various factions are governed by Ezes (warrior-kings). These leaders are advised by the Anwasi Council, a group of powerful magicians who offer guidance on economic and military matters. The Council operates out of The Luminary, a grand structure located at the water's edge that serves as both a seat of government and a sanctuary for magical learning.
Spiritual Traditions
Central to Niri tradition is the Esi, a spiritual legacy described as the collective will, judgments, and regrets of ancestors that can be amplified and transferred through a sacred ritual. Spiritually, the Niri are devoted to Chineke, whom they revere as the one true God.
Culture & Warfare
In culture and warfare, the Niri are distinguished by several unique characteristics:
- •Battle Markings: Warriors often apply white chalk to their faces and bodies before entering combat
- •Elemental Mastery: While rare, some Niri possess the ability to manipulate fire or summon deadly arcs of electricity
The Niri spirit is often compared to a smoldering ember; though they have been forced to bend to foreign rule, their pride remains unbroken as they seek to reclaim their birthright of independence.
